A small uninhabited house caught fire and burned to the ground on Bailey Road on Monday afternoon. The cause is not yet known and is being investigated, according to Battalion Chief Milton Wilson.

Rome-Floyd firefighters responded to the scene at 4:47 p.m. where neighbors and passerbys reported smoke and flames coming from the home. No one sustained injuries in the incident.

A lone chimney was left standing as firefighters tore down a burnt-out wall and the fire was contained on the property. Georgia Power was called to the scene to cut off a live power wire that was attached to the house.

I was wondering that also, but then I saw that the story said the house was uninhabited. So glad no one was there to be hurt!

Was there anyone living there at the time?
