Tuesday's re-election of President Barack Obama was the final straw for two Cedartown business owners, who on Wednesday announced the pending closure of the historic West Cinema and the Pink Sugar boutique.

Jacquie Peterson and her husband, John Clark, also own three other businesses. They travel across the nation in support of Hospitality Renovations and U.S. National Construction, which will both continue operating. A fifth business, Zeepbel USA, is a manufacturer and wholesale supplier of organic bath and body products to spas, boutiques and salons. The business sells to nine states and Peterson also plans to continue operations.

The list of businesses that will be laying off or shutting down is growing. The experts warned us that this would happen under Obama's failed policies. Those of us with common sense listened and those without common sense voted for Obama. It's just that simple.

Yea Enforcer!!! Quit complaining about free stuff from the government. Even the Republican governors love it.

Obama held a gun to their head and took all their money, now he's offering a percentage of it back. Since they agree to accept their own money, it proves that they fully support Obamacare.

FREE health care. Who can argue with that? :P

On a similar note, if you want to see the future of Obamacare, check this, from a yahoo article:

"For the first time in thirty years, Social Security payouts exceeded non-interest income in 2010 and 2011. The difference between the money coming out and going in was about $45 billion dollars in 2011. While there is "extra" money in the Social Security "bank account" called a "trust fund," to offset the difference, the number of beneficiaries will continue to grow at a substantially faster rate than the number of covered workers.

The Board of Trustees estimate that in 2033 all the money in the Social Security "bank account" will be depleted. That's three years earlier than estimated just last year. This means that workers in their forties fifties today may not have access to the Social Security benefits that they've paid into when they retire."

What this article says is "This can not continue".

The Republicans blinked first and lost elections due to their desire to "end social security". Both parties will now just sit and stare at each other on this issue while it falls apart.

For those who don't like welfare programs, looks like you've got about 20 more years before they start crumbling.

lol@this backwoods redneck and his wife blaming Obama for their lack of business savvy. Those businesses were on the chopping block before the elections. They are probably using the landslide victory as an excuse to get out before they lose their home. Let's just be honest here.

Don't act surprised at the Demos celebrating the loss of a business. This is one of those evil corporations that they intend to show who's boss.

Someone here said that all of this has been happening for awhile, and they are correct. Obama just greases the skids. The good news for these two, is that if all of their businesses fail, they can get just about everything they need absolutely free from the government.

I'm sorry, but you don't get to blame the president for your low business management skills. Well run businesses don't fail. He and his wife are failures in what they set out to do, and I have no doubt the other business they own will follow suit, because of their obviously painfully low business acumen. Take responsibility, and stop blaming others for your failures.

The election was just another reason for backwoods, low information (stupid) voters to point the finger in blame at other people for why they cannot advance in today's America.

Here's a hint to your problems: Its you. Not Obama. You are your own problem, so deal with it.

Well FR, I'm sure you noticed I haven't been on in a while, and since the last time I was on, I hauled you know what as fast as I could out of the backwoods of Floyd county. Since the move, I have modestly cut costs, and quality of life had increased exponentially :-) I am seriously asking myself, what recession? I appreciate your concern though.

BTW, I did not realize that the phrase "redneck" was a "slur" and did not intend for it to be taken that way. I thought people wore that word as a badge of honor. I guess not.

Well, the re-election of Obama is already being felt both nationally and locally. Nationally, Wall Street is down 500 points total since Wednesday because everybody is selling in anticipation of the lackluster economic future. I would bet anything that the 50% of Americans that voted for Obama probably has NO investments in Wall Street while the 50% that voted for Romney has stock of some kind so the Obama supporters are not affected. ------ Wednesday morning PSC Metals in Rome employees were met at the door and told the home office has elected to close the location. ------- Pink Sugar and West Cinema in Cedartown is closing because of fears steming from the election. Elections have consequences. Those who love the "Free" stuff from government and voted for Obama so you can keep getting "FREE STUFF" just remember one thing...We, the American workforce and business owners that pay taxes, provide the funding for your "FREE" stuff. What happens when we, the workforce, no longer have jobs and can't pay taxes anymore to pay for your living? What happens then? Government can't run without we, the tax payers. This is my LAST post regarding this hideous election and the pathetic state of our country. PLEASE GOD, bless the United States of America.

It does pass the smell test, slacker! I happen to a VP of sales for one of the companies that competes against the organizations mentioned in the article. But don't worry, you will be able to verify that when we stop producing advanced technology. I can hear it now......" What do you mean, I can't have my knee placement?" Well sir, no orthopedic companies will manufacture products in the US and those "evil rich surgeons" (that went to school for 16 years) refuse to operate on patient that have Medicare. You can't have you cake and eat it too! Here, I have some advice for you. Get your Ass off that computer and go make a ton of money, then maybe you will have a different view of the world. It's easy to talk about paying a lot of taxes when you don't have the money to pay them. It's easy to talk about it, when your arm is tired because you standing there holding your hand out!

The very reason I have for all practical purposes stopped commenting on any articles. The newspaper for whatever reason thinks it's a good idea for voter to insult everyone with which she disagrees, instead of doing something radical like offering a counter argument.

dbeall, don’t fall for her bullying tactics. Ignoring her is the best policy. The longer you can do that, the more predictable and comical she becomes. I have actually won a bet or two on what her response would be to a given post (until my friends caught on). If you follow some of the left-wing blogs, her thoughts and name-calling are really not that original.

Same woman, Voter, who giggled and celebrated when a man in Marietta died. Why? Because he was listed as a "life long Republican" in his obit.

Same woman, Voter, who has used every racist term she could think of when addressing blacks who don't fall in line with her slavery of food stamps and government cheese, then calls others racist whenever they criticize someone who voted for Obama with no reference to race.

Same woman, Voter, who tries to find the identity of every poster so that she can find a skeleton in their closet and then use it to define that person every time they post.

A vile, despicable creature, but a daily reminder of what lurks behind those government checks, food stamps and high honorable reverends that keep blacks enslaved to poverty.

What a great marketing tool to unload two businesses - blame business failure on the re-election of President Obama and then the wire services pick up the story and free, yes free advertising like you can't believe. Remember the guy who made a political statement in his obituary...same thing - free publicity.

For all of you "extremely smart Obama supporters" who keep making asinine comments, here is a link. Read this article and give me your best explanation on why these companies are laying off people. Here let me whisper something in your ear....those "evil rich people" that you keep demonizing are the people that supplies the jobs! Can you name one poor person who has hired someone? Hold that thought, here's the bigger question.....what do you think those "evil rich people" do with their money, when they are going to lose it to taxes? Answer...they hold on to it! They don't spend it!!! That's why they're rich!!!! That means they don't invest it! So when that "evil rich guy" comes to hand you a pink slip, then you can go and see what that wonderful president of yours really has in store for you. Free stuff for everyone!

If you can't go to college now and better yourself and your family, it's your own fault..

Same goes for learning a Trade and being good at what you build..

Blaming your failed business attempt on Obama. How 'Romney' of you!

Like a business selling bath salts and bubblewash would succeed in Cedar-podunk-town Georgia, anyway! Quit pushing your failures on the outcome of the election, if Romney won you would still go in debt... face it! Pathetic.

Great article, thanks for the heads up: I will never support a business that pushes their failures on others.

FYI Obama voters. The CBO projects the debt at the end of his 2nd term to be in excess of 22T. He will have amassed more debt the the SUM of ALL prior presidents.

Should be good times.

Many stories on Facebook...and I always believe what I see on the internet. Businesses are beginning to downsize and convert employees to contract workers...check business trends of decades ago and you'll find this was happening in a big way back then.

We hate to see them leave because you've never seen a gift wrap like Pink Sugar did. It was so impressive that the gift sometimes took a backseat. We bought many things there, especially gifts.

They were a bit different...they kept a partisan political sign on their movie marquee. That had to alienate a large portion of the locals. I believe their failures had more to do with a economy that has not recovered fully from...well, we know about that.

Are you kidding me with this couple how can an election of the president affect them if they blame a president for their businesses instead of themselves then something is really wrong ridiculous crap I've never seen a president responsible for so much blame of circunstances for some folks it's called personal responsibility people.

I own a small business. Small business owners have to be proactive with their decisions. Taxes will be rising. Business owners will be making decisions based on future tax policy. Business owners make decisions based on profit, not good will. It is an economic fact that escapes liberals.

I know MANY business owners that are downsizing to escape the mandates of Obamacare. I am sure that is not the case here. Owners are downsizing everywhere. Not to worry folks. The government will take care of us all.

Romney would not have helped either just so you will know. Our politicians are not the problem. We are the problem. Our citizenry expects others to take care of us. We have now reached the tipping point where more people are sitting in the cart than are pulling it. Our politicians, republican and democrat, are purchasing our votes with our own money. We are so stupid.

Small business people are fed up with Obama..

The Darden corporation-Olive garden-Red Lobster and Longhorn are cutting employees to 29 hours per week so they won't have to pay their healthcare under ObamaCare..I'm sure most of those folks will be looking for part-time work elsewhere to supplement their income..

I know of an office that has already changed its employees to contract employees. Every single one of them. Stated reason is so that they're not forced to buy healthcare. Crazy thing is, it's a health care office. The company considered paying its employees to reject healthcare insurance and pay the fine, but it was cheaper to swap to contract.

Scream all you want, when you start taking the money that people earn, and they start seeing how unfair the system is, they will find ways to avoid your taking it.

For those of you who have ever had health insurance, do you remember how you are asked for your co-pay prior to service. Did you know that medicare has rules about when and where offices can ask for the patient portion? And if the office demands payment prior to service, Medicare will threaten to drop the provider? Yep. Government Healthcare.

@FormerRoman: Red Lobster cuts staff hours to avoid helping finance insurance that saves a working class family from the poorhouse if they have previous conditions, and Obama is the villain?

Years ago I worked as a dishwasher at a Red Lobster in another town. The manager figured out that if we turned the heat down on the water (below safe levels), we could unload the dishes faster. Patrons may have gotten food poisoning, but the restaurant saved a few pennies.

Things haven't changed much, apparently.
