Most of the parcels are sheriff’s deed tracts, abandoned through the owners’ failure to pay back taxes and unable to attract buyers when offered for sale on the courthouse steps. The last sheriff’s deed auction took place in 2010.
County Manager Blaine Williams said the legal requirements have been met for disposal of the properties — which will be declared “unserviceable” for county use. In addition to bringing in some money, sales also would relieve the county of maintenance responsibilities.
The board also is scheduled to award a contract for air conditioner improvements at the Rome-Floyd County Library and to approve a car swap for the Juvenile Court.
Plans are for the court to trade in a 1994 Ford Crown Victoria for a 2007 Chevrolet Impala that’s been declared surplus from another department.
Commissioners also are slated to consider a 10-year contract to buy water from the city of Calhoun at a starting wholesale price of $1.40 per 1,000 gallons.
The county already contracts with Rome, at $3.15 per 1,000 gallons, and Adairsville, at $1.47 per 1,000 gallons, to supplement its groundwater sources.
The board’s caucus is set for 1:30 p.m., with the regular meeting to follow at 2 p.m. in the County Administration Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave.
Commissioners will first gather at noon for another 2013 budget workshop, continuing a line-item review of projected revenue and expenses for the police, public works and animal control departments.
All three sessions are open to the public.
