Ga. groups receive $1 million to help veterans

ATLANTA (AP) — Two nonprofit groups in Georgia have received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to help provide services to homeless and at-risk veterans.

Officials say the money will be used to help veterans and their families who are facing imminent eviction or are currently homeless. It's part of a broader $100 million national effort.

The two nonprofits are Atlanta-based Action Ministries and HOPE Atlanta. Officials say each agency will serve 200 veterans and their families.

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia says the "VA has recognized that homelessness among veterans is such a complex issue that it is important to work with local experts and two of the best are Action Ministries and HOPE Atlanta."
