Floyd police are investigating a wreck on U.S. 411 that sent two people, including one that was found in a nearby field, to the hospital late Thursday night. (Kim Sloan, RN-T.com)
James Kyle Clark, 34, of Cave Spring, was attempting to pass two tractor-trailers while going more than 100 miles per hour while traveling south near the bypass on U.S. 411, according to Sgt. Greg Beck of the Floyd County Police Department.
When he realized he couldn’t pass the tractor-trailers, he veered into the other lane and nearly hit a Jeep Liberty head-on.
Clark then hit an embankment with his 1995 Honda Accord, causing it to go airborne.
Clark, who was not wearing his seat belt, was thrown from the car about 90 feet into a field.
Clark suffered a broken leg and wrist, according to Beck.
He and a passenger, Donna Michelle Carter, 30, of Rome, were taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment. Their conditions were unavailable late Friday afternoon.
Clark was charged with DUI, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving with a suspended or revoked license, giving false information to a police officer, open container, passing in a no passing zone, reckless driving, no seat belt and driving too fast for conditions.

Two people were taken to the hospital after a wreck involving a four-door Honda on U.S. 411 late Thursday night.
Details of the wreck were unavailable late Thursday, but one of the injured occupants was found in a field several yards away from the car.
The wreck occurred on U.S. 411 between U.S. 27 and Cave Spring, near the area where the Rome bypass crosses over the highway. Early reports indicate the car left the roadway and rolled several times.
Police were still on the scene of the wreck past midnight Friday.
