“Major changes are about the happen in health care,” Davis said. “They’re going to be coming very fast and furious at us. It’s not going to be the usual pace of just trickling in over the next two years. I think over the next two years we’re going to see some significant changes and Harbin just needs to be prepared for that.”
Davis said he feels his position needs to be as a strategist.
“Someone that’s looking toward the future and making sure that we are in the right position with the right partners at the right time,” Davis said. “We felt like we needed to beef up the folks that we had internally so that we can prepare ourselves for this and to release me more to be able to focus on the future and strategies.”
Stock joined Harbin in 1999 as director of the business office and was promoted to chief operating officer in 2001. Davis said Harbin would seek to replace Stock as COO as soon as possible.
One of the opportunities that may be in the future for Harbin Clinic is a role in the LakePoint Sporting Community and Town Center project in Bartow County. Davis was among the invited guests for the formal groundbreaking ceremonies.
“We’ve had some very good discussions, that’s all I can say but, yeah, that’s something that we are certainly looking at,” Davis said.
The LakePoint project — a youth sports complex in Emerson — will feature what is being called the International Performance Training Center that will include the Powerade Sports Safety and Hydration Lab, as well as the Dr. James Andrews Sports Medicine Research Institute. Andrews is an internationally-acclaimed orthopedic surgeon from Birmingham.
“This can only help our surgeons, because I think, just the exposure to all of that, possibly being a small part of it, could be positive,” said Davis.
Davis said one of the immediate goals at Harbin Clinic is to have its physicians designated as a Level Three National Center for Quality Assurance Patient-Centered Medical Home accredited facility by January of 2013.
