Cornerstone Demolition and Grading Inc. crews worked to demolish the former Peoples Financial building at the intersection of Shorter Avenue and Second Avenue early Tuesday.

Peoples Financial, long a fixture at 620 North Second Avenue in Rome will be relocating to a much larger space at 1013 Shorter Avenue.

The property on North Second Avenue will be consumed by improvements to Second Avenue being planned by the city of Rome and the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The AT&T store in that triangle with Peoples will be relocating to the new Charles Hight Square shopping center, however that is expected to be at least ten months down the road.

i really do wish the "City of Rome" would let the people know their plans for this intersection! For the life of me I do not understand the "no right turn on red" at this same intersection turning onto 2nd Ave! I have been driving in this town since 1976 and all change is not always progress!!! Who makes these decisions anyway?
