COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — Federal authorities say a former Fort Benning soldier who was caught with child pornography on his computer during a tour of duty in Kuwait has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison.

The Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus reports Michael Allen Ray pleaded guilty to a charge in July and was sentenced last week. Officials say a U.S. District judge in Columbus ordered Ray to serve 25 years of supervised release after his prison term, and the former soldier will have to register as a sex offender.

Authorities say Ray was the target of an undercover sting in 2011 and the Army sent Ray back to the United States after officials found child on his computer. Authorities arrested Ray and confiscated his computer at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta.
