The Berry College Music Program is delighted to host the 2013 Trumpet Festival of the Southeast Jan. 18-20.

During the festival, two evening concerts are free and open to the public. Jazz trumpet legend Ingrid Jensen will perform at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 in the Krannert Ballroom at Berry. Jensen can be heard with the Grammy-winning Maria Schneider Orchestra and a number of New York-based bands. The second concert will feature University of Maryland Professor of Trumpet Chris Gekker at 7:30 p.m. Jan.19 in Ford Auditorium. Gekker has been featured as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and throughout the United States.

"We are honored to host the 2013 Trumpet Festival of the Southeast this year at Berry College,” said Adam Hayes, Berry assistant professor of music and trumpet. “Most importantly, we are delighted to carry on this annual celebration of great music-making. I am excited to share our beautiful campus and our great support of the arts with trumpet enthusiasts from around the country.”

The festival is an annual celebration of trumpet performance and education and is one of the nation’s premiere regional trumpet conferences. Each year, the conference hosts world-class performing artists in both classical and jazz. This three-day event includes master classes and exhibits. A registration fee of $40 is required to take part in classes and exhibits. Registration is open through the start of the festival. Participants may also register upon arrival at the festival.

Approximately 300-400 attendees, ranging from professional to non-performing enthusiasts, are anticipated. Representatives from southeastern schools including Belmont University, Vanderbilt University and the University of Georgia will be in attendance.
