One person died and another is being airlifted after a collision this afternoon in Rockmart at the intersection of Georgia Highways 113 and 278, according to officials.

Rockmart Police Chief Keith Sorrells said police were still working the wreck at 3 p.m. A medical transport helicopter was taking one driver to an Atlanta hospital.

The identity of the deceased person has not been released.

Sorrells said the two-vehicle wreck included a car and a tractor trailer.

Police are currently diverting traffic while they investigate the incident, he said.
