Football: Darlington to retire Shawn Powell's jersey

Former Darlington star Shawn Powell -- who recently completely his rookie season as the starting punter for the Buffalo Bills -- will have his jersey retired by the Darlington football program on Friday night.

The jersey-retirement ceremony will take place in the gym at the Huffman Center around 7:15 p.m. (The ceremony will began shortly after the Darlington girls varsity basketball game against Christian Heritage, and will be followed by the boys game).

Powell graduated from Darlington in 2007 and then attended Florida State, where he became an All-American punter and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees..

In high school, he was a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball.

His list of career accomplisments include:

2-Time First Team All-Area Punter

Class AA First Team All-State

AJC All-Classification All-Decade Team

FSU career leader in net punting average

FSU record for season punting average

Team MVP 2011

Special Teams Captain

First Team All-ACC Punter 2011

Consensus First Team all-American 2011

2011 National Punter of the Year Award

Holds Buffalo Bills Rookie Punting Average

Currently 5th All-Time Highest Punting Average in Buffalo History
