The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and the museum are still searching for historical items relating to the sheriff’s office through the years.
“We’ve had a couple things come in,” said Lt. Mark Blanton, who’s responsible for Records Retention Services for the sheriff’s office.
He explained that old sheriff bonds, photographs, guns, handcuffs and a badge have all turned up in the last month.
“Originally, they were hoping to have something by the end of September,” he said. “But it depends on what we can collect. We’d really love to collect a lot of stuff.”
In addition to memorabilia such as newspaper clippings, badges and uniforms, Sheriff Tim Burkhalter and his team are looking for photographs of previous sheriffs or other officers.
“I’m sure there are some people out there that are descendants of those sheriffs that we don’t have a photograph of,” Blanton stated.
If you have a photo of a sheriff not on the history page of the department’s Web site — or if you have group photos or other pictures — please take it to the Rome Area History Museum or call Lt. Mark Blanton at 706-314-0705.
Photos will be scanned and returned.
