The Rome Braves will have a new look next spring. On certain occasions, at least.

The team unveiled a new alternate uniform Thursday that will be worn during batting practice, road games and home games on selected dates during the 2009 season.

The new jerseys are navy blue with “R-O-M-E” emblazoned across the chest in bold gray and white letters. The cap is also navy and features a Roman column overlaid with crisscrossing tomahawks — a slight alteration from the team’s normal logo.

“The hat and jersey will give a unique look to our team,” said general manager Mike Dunn, “and represent our city with bold letters … while playing in the 15 South Atlantic League cities.”

The new-look jerseys bring more prominence to the team’s city than previous uniforms.

“We are excited that the team will add to the Rome identity,” said Al Hodge, the President and CEO of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce.

Last year, the Braves wore three different jerseys — white, gray and red. (The red jerseys were unveiled for the first time early last season, and were worn primarily during BP and day games).

The navy hats are now on sale at the Tradin’ Post located at State Mutual Stadium. Additional merchandise will be available in the coming weeks.

The Braves open the season on April 9 in Charleston, S.C., and play their home opener on April 14th against Savannah.

Season tickets and other ticket packages are now on sale. For more information, call 706-378-9388 or go online to www.romebraves.com
