Darlington School’s boys soccer team won its Area 6-A/AA opener Wednesday by beating the homestanding Coosa Eagles 5-1.

Blake Tharp scored three goals for Darlington’s Tigers (5-3 overall) and even had an assist.

Tharp’s assist is what led to Darlington’s first goal when teammate Tony Boone took the pass and scored.

Right before halftime, Tharp scored unassisted to give Darlington a 2-0 lead.

Boone then earned the first of two assists by passing the ball to Hall Penn, who scored to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Coosa started to come back with a goal by Dusty Cordle that came off a Cory McAdams assist to make it 3-1.

The Eagles (4-4 overall, 1-1 in the area) had a chance to cut Darlington’s lead to 3-2 but William Navarette missed a penalty kick.

From there, Darlington pulled away with Tharp’s final two goals.
