Rockmart strikes early to handle Chapel Hil | Sport

ROCKMART — It wasn’t exactly the type game desired, but the Rockmart Yellow Jackets took care of the situation early and moved to a 34-12 Region 6-AA win over visiting Chapel Hill Friday night.

After a problem with the stadium lights delayed the game, Rockmart moved to the front of the scoring table quickly and ended up with a 21-0 first period.

With 10:26 left in the first period, Rockmart’s Evan Williams closed out the initial scoring with a 26-yard pass to Danny Ware. Williams then ran for a two-point tally on the PAT.

Midway in the period, Jeffrey Davis scored on a six-yard run and the kicked fail, but the followed up with an eight-yard tally and Brett Hayes added the PAT.

In the second half, Rockmart’s Roger Williams picked off a Campbell pass and returned it 75 yards for a score with 9:532 left in the third quarter. Hayes added the PAT.

Also, Danny Ware closed out the scoring for Rockmart with a four-yard effort with 4 minutes remaining.

Rockmart (3-1) visits Cartersville next Friday
