Bridgepoint Plaza will be home to the Rome Festivals Council’s newest brainchild for Friday night entertainment in Rome.

Rome’s Summer Film Festival will offer free movies downtown under the stars on the second and fourth Fridays in July and August (July 11 and 25, Aug. 8 and 22).

“It is certainly an exciting opportunity,” said Ann Arnold, chair of the newly created Film Committee. “Families can come and enjoy the atmosphere of downtown to have fun and be together.

Activities for children will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the film will begin around 9 p.m.

Arnold said this summer’s festival will feature a sports theme in celebration of the arrival of the Rome Braves in town. Some movies in consideration are “Field of Dreams”, “A League of Their Own”, “Remember the Titans”, “Rocky” and “The Rookie”.

“They will all be rated PG and screened by the committee,” Arnold said.

Special Events Network of Atlanta has been hired to manage the showings. A digital projector will project the films onto a 26 by 14-foot inflatable screen with full surround sound. The Film Committee currently is searching for corporate and local sponsors for the event. For more information, contact Arnold at 236-4520
