The Rome Braves jumped out to a 5-1 lead over the Charleston (S.C.) RiverDogs before holding on for a 5-3 victory over Charleston on Sunday at State Mutual Stadium.

The Braves scored twice in the bottom of the third to lead 2-0 before Charleston cut it to 2-1 in the top of the fourth. But Rome would plate two more runs in the bottom half to make it 4-1 after four innings.

A single run in the seventh put the Braves up 5-1, but the RiverDogs tried to rally in the ninth. Charleston scored two runs, but Fernando Tadefa slammed the door to get his sec-ond save and preserve the win.

Rome opens a four-game series with the Savannah Sand Gnats on Monday night at 7
