Police are investigating a suspected bomb found in the closet of a Rome home Sunday night.

A homeowner on High Street, just off Dean Street near East Central Elementary School, called authorities at 10 p.m. after he found a suspicious package in his closet, said Rome police Detective Jim Moser.

An explosive response team from the Floyd County Sher-iff’s Office determined the package was an explosive device, Moser said, and then took the package outside and detonated it.

Further details weren’t available as of 11 this morning. An investigation is continuing.
