Darrell Cephus Edmond, 40, of Rome, was sentenced to life in prison this afternoon after a Floyd County Superior Court jury convicted him of murdering 63-year-old Cynthia Wiggins.

Wiggins was reported missing on April 2, 2002, after meeting Edmond at the Royal Inn in Rome.

Police believe Edmond beat her to death at the motel and took her body to South Carolina, where her remains were found on the side of the road in December 2002. Edmond was arrested in Delaware.

Jurors convicted him today of murder and theft by taking for stealing Wiggins’ car, and he faces consecutive sentences of life in prison plus 10 years for the theft charge
