Mr. and Mrs. Hal Morse Ruland of Rome announce the engagement of their daughter Sydnie Brianne Ruland to John Thomas Horton of Rome, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Franklin Horton of Clayton.

Miss Ruland is a 2000 graduate of Rome High School and a 2004 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial design. She is a member of Phi Mu Sorority, Christian Campus Fellowship and Techwood Tutorial Program. She is employed at Universal Tax Systems in Rome.

The bride-elect is the sister of Aubrey Beth Ruland of Athens. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Harry Morse Ruland and Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Alvin Wilson Sr., all of Rome, and the late Mr. Ruland. She is the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Walter Elmer Wilson of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Horton is a 1995 graduate of Rabun County High School and a 1999 graduate of Berry College with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. He was a member of the Berry College Golf team, was a two-time All-American in golf and was on the 1998 National Championship golf team. He is employed at Horseleg Plantation Country Club.

The groom-elect is the brother of Scott Adams Horton of Clayton and Brent Michael Horton of Old Town, Maine.

The private wedding is planned for Saturday, April 30, 2005, in Frost Chapel at Berry College
