The Berry and Shorter tennis teams all are Mobile-bound as the Vikings and Lady Vikings, along with the Hawks and Lady Hawks, received at-large bids to the NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, Ala.

The bids were handed out last week and the tournament gets under way with first-round action today. The eight seeded teams play their first matches on Tuesday.

In the men’s draw, both No. 12 Shorter (13-5) and No. 17 Berry (10-10) will play in the first round today.

Shorter opens its tournament against No. 26 Walsh (Ohio) (16-5). The Shorter-Walsh winner will take on fifth-ranked Vanguard (Calif.) (14-4) in the second round.

Berry’s first-round opponent is No. 16 Alliant International (Calif.) (9-7). The Berry-Alliant International victor will face No. 1-ranked Santa Fe (N.M.) (16-2) in the round of 16.

On the women’s side, both No. 6 Shorter (15-4) and No. 7 Berry (16-8) received a top-eight seed and the first-round bye that goes with it.

Shorter’s opening match will be on Tuesday afternoon against either No. 11 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) (15-10) or Mobile (Ala.) (14-4).
