Over the next four days, 99 of some of the top junior golfers in the country will call Rome home when they tee off at the 9th annual Burgett H. Mooney Jr. Rome Classic tees off at Coosa Country Club.

The American Junior Golf Association event begins this morning with a Junior- Am tournament fundraiser and an afternoon practice round for the players.

In the Junior-Am event, 25 four-person teams will be paired with an AJGA golfer.

The three-day, 54-hole tourney gets under way Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. and concludes Thursday.

“It’s amazing just how good these kids are,” Coosa golf pro Brian Albertson said. “College coaches from around the country will be recruiting. One time, we had 30 coaches here.”

The field will include a strong group of Greater Rome golfers.

Playing in the boys division will be Rome’s Patrick McShane, Collin Doss, Will Jones and Cameron Barnes, Cedartown’s Ryan Zebeau and Jared Henderson of Calhoun, while Lacey Sheppard of Rome is in the girls field.

The tournament is open to the public
