A Polk County teacher filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against Polk County Schools Superintendent Darrell Sorrells and members of the county school board after she was placed on administrative leave with pay.

Rhonda Lindsey, a teacher with the school system and a cheerleading coach, was placed on administrative leave with pay on Aug. 12 after allegations arose that nude pictures of some members of the Cedartown High School cheerleading squad had been taken, according to the lawsuit, which was filed in U.S. District Court in Rome.

Neither Sorrells nor any school board member has evidence that such photos exist, according to the lawsuit.

Lindsey is asking for unspecified punitive damages and that she be allowed to return to work.

Another teacher/coach has also been placed on administrative leave with pay, Sorrells said Wednesday.

Sorrells said late Thursday he had not seen the lawsuit and declined to comment.
