A Silver Creek man was in jail Sunday night on $15,010 bail, accused of stealing a carton of cigarettes, 11 packs of cigarettes, 50 lighters and four lottery tickets from a Floyd County convenience store.

According to Floyd County Jail and police reports:

Joshua Russell Johnson, 20, of 10B Cross Ridge Drive, was arrested about 4 a.m. Sunday and charged with burglary, theft by taking, obstruction of law enforcement officers, criminal trespass, public drunkenness and underage consumption of alcohol.

Shortly before 1 a.m., witnesses said Johnson was seen running from Haney’s Gas & Grocery, 3113 Rockmart Road, which he reportedly entered by breaking a window.

He then hid in a ditch near Chateau Drive, where police later found a paper sack along with a receipt from magistrate court with the store listed on it. Johnson was spotted in a Chateau Drive driveway and was caught after a short chase.
