The clubs sixth annual Night at the Movies fund-raiser Feb. 21 at Rome Cinemas will prove to serve a more community-based purpose.
Night at the Movies raises money for our nonprofit agency that helps provide education and support services to high-risk families within Floyd County, said Amanda Bowen, executive director of the center. Were here to help with parenting issues and help prevent neglect and abuse within families.
This years Night at the Movies will feature six Hollywood hits, including Walk the Line featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon; Last Holiday with Queen Latifah and LL Cool J; and The Matador starring Pierce Brosnan.
Along with the movies, there will be a cocktail hour sponsored by several local restaurants complete with an open bar and hors doeuvres until 7:15 p.m.
Before the films start rolling, the center will present the Katie Dempsey Award named after the first recipient of the award to one of its most dynamic volunteers. This award is presented to any past or present volunteer of the center that has helped aid us in our mission, stated Bowen.
This year, Exchange Club hopes the fund-raiser will collect $15,000.
Last year, we had 300 participants, the greatest number of participants weve ever had, raising about $12,000, said Bowen. This year, we hope to increase that number even more.
