Merrit has requested a voluntary transfer to become principal at West Central Elementary, Rome City School Superintendent Gayland Cooper said. The position will be vacated due to the retirement of Principal Wayne Sanders at the end of the school year.
Merrit’s transfer and that of current Southeast Principal Buffi Murphy to the principal position at West End will go before the Rome Board of Education for approval at their monthly meeting Tuesday night. The changes will leave vacancies for the principal spots at Anna K. Davie and Southeast elementary schools for the 2006-2007 school year.
The interview process has already begun to fill the positions, Cooper said.
