SWAT standoff

Rome-Floyd SWAT ended a two-hour standoff early Thursday involving a man who barricaded himself inside his Shannon home.

According to Floyd County Jail records: Terry Edward Little, 42, of 660 Flowery Branch Road, was in jail with no bail set Thursday night, charged with simple battery, cruelty to children in the second degree and making terroristic threats against law enforcement officers.

About 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Floyd County police were sent to Little’s home after he was accused of shoving a woman into the side of a car. When officer Josh Harkins arrived, Little told him not to come inside or else he would “put a shotgun in (the officer’s) face,” said SWAT commander and Floyd County police Capt. Tom Ewing. “That’s when we came into it.”

Little then barricaded himself in the house with his 5-year-old daughter.

While outside the Flowery Branch Road home, Little reportedly called an Atlanta television news station.

“He called Fox 5 News … and told them he was trying to go to bed and the police were trying to get into his house,” Ewing said. “It happens occasionally on these calls.”

Close to 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Little stepped outside his house. When the officers told him he was going to be taken to jail, he tried to run back inside. An officer then shot him with a Taser and arrested him.The young girl reportedly was not harmed.

The SWAT team has been busy recently. Late Saturday and early Sunday, officers were involved in a hostage standoff with a man in Lindale. Tuesday afternoon, they shot tear gas into an East Ninth Street apartment to subdue a man who allegedly threatened to shoot his neighbor.

“It’s been a very hectic week,” Ewing said.
