A Rome man was arrested Tuesday morning after wrecking a motorcycle that reportedly had been stolen, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Sheridan Jerome Griffin, 35, of 1 Orchid Place, was accused of theft by taking, driving with a suspended license, driving in violation of license restrictions, obstruction of law enforcement officers and failure to obey traffic control devices.

Griffin was stopped at the intersection of Branham Avenue and Grover Street when officers saw him riding with a passenger while not wearing a helmet. When officers tried to stop Griffin, he ran a stop sign and after crashing the motorcycle tried to run away. He was arrested at 3:30 a.m.

The motorcycle belonged to Kevin Kemp and had not been returned when requested. In addition to having a suspended license, Griffin did not have the proper license to operate a motorcycle.

Bail for Griffin was set at $6,050.
