Two Gordon County roads were blocked for hours following a series of wrecks Wednesday, authorities said.

Two people were airlifted to hospitals following a two-vehicle wreck in Calhoun on Wednesday morning at the intersection of Ga. 53 Spur and Harris-Beamer Road.

According to Lt. Larry Gilbert of the Calhoun Police Department, a car driven by Rachel Biggs hit a construction truck when her car failed to stop.

Biggs, 24, was coming down Harris-Beamer Road and the truck was traveling west at about 9:30 a.m. when the wreck happened. Both the driver and the passenger of the truck were airlifted.

Another wrecked involving a flipped concrete truck closed a section of Shope Lake Road.

That wreck, which happened about 1:06 p.m., continued to block traffic Wednesday evening but no one was taken to the hospital, 911 said.
