The Adairsville High girls’ soccer team beat Chattooga 9-1 on Tuesday night in the season-opening match for both teams.

Senior Belle Thomas led Adairsville’s attack with three goals, while freshman Skylar Maddox also scored three times.

Jesse Sexauer, Han Bo and Alisha Boswell all scored one goal apiece.

Goalkeeper Carmen Freshour had four saves, while backup Lauren Sherwood came in and made one save.

The Lady Tigers (1-0) host Darlington on Thursday at 5 p.m., with the Adairsville and Darlington boys following at 7 p.m.

NW Whitfield 2, Armuchee 1

The Lady Indians hung tough against AAAA foe Northwest Whitfield in their season opener in the Walker County Invitational Tournament.

The Lady Bruins led 1-0 at halftime, and an early second-half goal put them up 2-0.

Armuchee (0-1) got an unassisted goal by Amanda Teems to cut the gap in half, but Northwest fought off repeated attacks by the Lady Indians to seal the win.

The Lady Indians return to the Walker tournament on Thursday.

Sequoyah 5, Rome 0

The Lady Wolves were shut out by visiting Sequoyah in their season opener.

The Rome girls (0-1) return to action on Thursday, hosting Kell in a doubleheader with the boys’ team
