Rome Mayor Ronnie Wallace made several temporary committee appointments Monday to fill vacancies on the panels created when Duane Reid stepped down from the Rome City Commission.

Reid resigned his seat on the city commission Sunday with immediate effect and will move to Florida for a professional opportunity. He was looking for employment after recently sellinAg his ownership interests in both Rome Ford Lincoln Mercury and Parkway Ford in Adairsville.

Reid said he had hoped to stay in Rome but was unable to find a job that did not require a commute.

Wallace said the full commission would discuss options of replacing Reid or simply waiting until the November election. Currently they are leaning toward not appointing an interim, he said.

Reid’s committee replacements include:

  • Commissioner Norman Skidmore will serve on the Alcohol Control Committee;

  • Commissioner Bill Fricks will serve on the Tourism Committee;

  • Commissioner Wright Babgby will serve on the Committee on Committees;

  • Commissioner Jamie Doss will serve on, and become chair of, the Water and Sewer Committee;

  • Commissioner Kim Canada will serve on the Finance Committee;

  • Commissioner Buzz Wachsteter will serve on the Public Works Committee.
