For once, the bear, elk and alligator meat won’t be the main attractions at the annual Armuchee Baptist Men’s Wild Game Supper. Duck will be.

More specifically, a duck caller will be. Buck Gardner, champion duck caller and president of Memphis-based Buck Gardner Calls LLC., will be the keynote speaker at the event, which for years has drawn community members to the church to sample an assortment of wild game meat.

“I contacted Buck, and he was available to speak at this year’s event. We’re very excited,” said Armuchee Baptist Church Pastor Glenn Clonts. “Anyone involved in hunting, especially duck hunting, has heard of Buck. He’s a Hall of Famer and on the board of Ducks unlimited. He’s a nationally known personality. Plus he’s committed to Christ.”

A native of Germantown Tenn., Gardner is recognized as one of the top duck callers in the nation. He won the 1994 World Championship and in 1995 he achieved the Champion of Champions, the highest honor in duck calling.

In 2005, Gardner was induced into the Outdoor Hall of Fame.

Clonts said Gardner is especially excited to meet and talk to young hunters and has promised to give away free duck calls to children who attend the event. He’ll also be giving a clinic on how to use the calls which are the signature products of his outdoor equipment line.

But while Gardner will be the featured attraction at the event, community members are no doubt anticipating the feast of wild game meat available each year.

“The men of the church and the community have been hunting all over for the meat we’ll have available,” Clonts said. “They’ve been to Alaska, Wisconsin, Arkansas, New York and even Canada and Africa on hunting trips.”

He said the men provide the meat and prepare the dishes on the day of the event. Everything is freshly cooked.

This year’s feast includes bear, alligator, chicken, elk, deer, antelope, pheasant and turkey as well as wild hog, duck and goose.
