The newly opened Carey Carter Reading Room on the campus of Murphy Harpst Children’s Centers in Cedartown has once again benefited from a generous gift. This time from a 13-year-old girl.

McKenzie Bearups, the daughter of Bethann Bearups of Alpharetta, learned of the mission of Murphy Harpst and of the extreme hardships suffered by its young residents.

She took on the mission of trying to make a difference in their lives — despite chronic and sometimes debilitating pain of her own caused by irreparable nerve damage in her knee. Her efforts resulted in raising some 3,000 books and 300 videos for the center.

Murphy Harpst Children’s Centers will honor McKenzie and her efforts on behalf of other young people with a plaque to be placed within the Carey Carter Reading Room.
