The Rome City Commission will meet Monday night for the first of three required public hearings before it sets the millage rate on July 23.

A caucus session at City Hall is scheduled for 5 p.m., followed by the hearing and regular board meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Plans are to set the tax rate at 24.43 mills — a slight drop from the 2006 rate of 24.45 mills. A mill is $1 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

The Commission will hold a second public hearing on the proposed tax rate at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The rate is slated to be locked in on July 23, following a final hearing set for 5:30 p.m.
