Thirteen new faculty members joined Shorter College at the beginning of the 2007-2008 academic year:

Dr. Susan Anton will serve as an assistant professor of education and as the director of the undergraduate program for education within Shorter’s Professional Studies program.

Dr. Elaine M. Artman joins Shorter’s faculty as an associate professor of education and the director of the graduate program for education within Shorter’s Professional Studies program.

Chris Crawford will serve as an assistant professor of theater.

Georgie Hall, an adjunct at Shorter since 1996, now joins the faculty as an instructor of dance.

Dr. Andrew E. Honeycutt joins Shorter’s faculty as a distinguished fellow in business management.

Dr. Joseph W. Hudgins III will serve as an assistant professor of biology.

Crystal McBrayer joins Shorter’s faculty as an assistant professor of art.

Jon Moseley, Shorter’s Lady Hawks head volleyball coach since 2006, joins the faculty as an instructor of math as well.

Nancy E. Mount will serve as an instructor of business.

Dr. Dinty J. Musk Jr. joins Shorter’s faculty as an assistant professor of chemistry.

Dr. Jason D. Ritchie will serve as an assistant professor of physical science.

Tom Smith joins Shorter’s faculty as an associate professor of music and Shorter’s band director.

Bertina J. Young will serve as an assistant professor of education and as the assistant director of the education programs within Shorter’s Professional Studies program.

Shorter also named a new director of student activites.

Emily Messer will supervise student activities, intramurals, student orientation and leadership programming.

Messer previously served for two years as a housing director and graduate assistant for student life at Jacksonville State University. She has also served as Youth in Government coordinator for the YMCA of Calhoun County and as interim director of tutoring services at Jacksonville State.

While completing an internship in Southern Methodist University's office of new student programs, Messer received the Most Outstanding Intern Award from the National Orientation Directors Association in October 2006.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Public Administration in education from Jacksonville State University.

Messer and her husband, Chris, reside in Rome.
