Dr. Carson has an incredible work ethic," said GHC President Randy Pierce. "She has a great deal of experience in both the classroom and in administration, and she will bring all these assets to the interim presidency at South Georgia College. We will most certainly miss her while shes gone, but I feel confident that our wonderful staff of faculty and administrators many of whom she has trained will fill in the gaps seamlessly during her absence.
Carson has been at Georgia Highlands since 2001. She previously served as dean of academic services for Georgia Perimeter Colleges Clarkston campus from 2000 to 2001. She spent the 1999-2000 academic year as a fellow of the American Council on Education at Northern Virginia Community College.
Carson is president-elect of the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs. She also represents Georgia on the executive council of the SACS Commission on Colleges and is state chair of the Georgia SACS commissioners. Carson is a member of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges and edited The AMATYC Review, a semi-annual refereed mathematics journal, from 1998 to 2003.
South Georgia College has not announced its plans for finding a permanent president.
