A Floyd County woman was arrested late Monday night after the SWAT team was called to her home.

Robin Lynn Coats, 43, of 5820 U.S. 27 South, was found around 10 p.m. hiding beneath a storage building near her home.

She has been charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to children, misdemeanor criminal trespass and misdemeanor reckless conduct, according to Floyd County Jail records.

“Right now we’ve pretty much exhausted the use of the (K-9) dog and we’ve gotten to the point where searching is useless,” Wallace said Monday night.

He said Coats could have been picked up or caught a ride somewhere Monday night.

According to Floyd County police office Mark Wallace:

Just after 4 p.m. Monday, Floyd County police officers and the Rome-Floyd SWAT team were dispatched to Coats’ residence in connection with an aggravated assault report.

Wallace said Lamar Coats told police his wife fired a shot in their home after he told her he had filed for divorce and he and his son heard a second shot when leaving the house.

Wallace said the SWAT team was dispatched because they were aware Robin Coats had access to several guns.

Just after 6 p.m. SWAT officers fired tear gas into the couple’s garage apartment and the home, but did not find Robin Coats, who police believe had run into the woods nearby.
