Georgia Tech and University System of Georgia Chancellor Erroll B. Davis, Jr. announced the appointment of Dr. Gary Schuster as the interim president of the university starting July 1.

G. Wayne Clough, the current president of Georgia Tech, is resigning effective June 30 to serve as the 12th Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.

Schuster will serve until the Davis and the Board of Regents can select a new president. Schuster is currently the provost and the executive vice president of Academic Affairs. He also serves as professor and Vasser Woolley Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and was former dean of the College of Sciences.

“It became clear to us that Gary Schuster was the outstanding choice,” Davis said. “We are delighted that he is willing to serve and to lead. I am confident that under Dr. Schuster’s leadership, Tech will continue to build upon the momentum it enjoys as Dr. Clough departs.”
