SAN FRANCISCO — The Atlanta Braves placed Rafael Soriano on the 15-day disabled list Monday for the third time this season because of an inflamed right elbow.

Atlanta also promoted left-hander Francisley Bueno from Triple-A Richmond and purchased his contract.

“Muy Bueno,” Braves manager Bobby Cox said with a grin, making his best effort in Spanish.

The 27-year-old Bueno, a Cuban defector, was 2-5 with a 5.02 ERA in 17 appearances and 12 starts at Richmond this season. His first outing will be his major league debut. The Braves are carrying 13 pitchers for now considering they have so many injuries and need help getting through games.

At least initially, Bueno will work in long relief.

The right-handed Soriano was 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA and three saves in four chances
