Floyd County and Rome City schools will receive $2.8 million from Gov. Sonny Perdue as part of a proposed $318 million bond package for the 2010 fiscal year.

The money is to support the construction of additional classrooms across Georgia.

This year’s bond package, totaling over $1.2 billion in new investment, will put Georgians to work and build critical infrastructure,” said Governor Sonny Perdue."

The bond package was part of Perdue’s 2010 fiscal year budget proposal, which was presented yesterday to the Georgia General Assembly during the Governor’s State of the State Address.

"In a time that we have trimmed our budget in other areas, we are aggressively increasing our bond package by a full twenty percent over last year," said Perdue. "This will take advantage of low construction costs and create an estimated 20,000 new jobs.
