Avery Blythe Callan of Rome and Christopher Alan Hammonds of Summerville announce their engagement. Callan is the daughter of Leigh Whittenburg Callan and James Scott Callan, both of Rome. Hammonds is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Hammonds and Fannie Searels, all of Summerville.

Miss Callan is a 1995 graduate of Rome High School, a 1998 graduate of Floyd College (now Georgia Highlands) and a 2000 graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in sport and exercise science. She attended Northwestern University Prosthetic and Orthotic Center in Chicago where she achieved certification in orthotics and prosthetics in 2008. She is employed at Walker Orthotics and Prosthetics of Rome.

The bride-elect is the sister of Whitney Paige Callan of Atlanta. She is the granddaughter of Juby Whittenburg, the late Doyle K. Whittenburg and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Pete Callan.

Hammonds is a 1993 graduate of Trion High School and attended Floyd College (now Georgia Highlands). He is employed at Hammonds Auto Parts in Summerville.

The groom-elect is the father of Will Hammonds. He is the brother of Chuck Hammonds of Summerville, Chelsea Searels of Kennesaw and Matthew Searels of Henderson, N.C. He is the grandson of Janette Hammonds, the late Fletcher Hammonds and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Clarkson.

The wedding ceremony is planned for Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Clock Tower Hill in Rome. A reception will follow.
