BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — A six-member coroner's jury will hear evidence to determine how and why a 17-year-old Glynn County Jail inmate died.

An autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime laboratory in Savannah showed that Kara L. Thompson of Brunswick died May 16 from bronchitis and pneumonia.

Thompson's family says she died as a result of negligence by staff at the Glynn County Detention Center.

Thompson was arrested April 21 on a warrant charging her with entering an auto.

She died at Southeast Georgia Health System's Brunswick hospital shortly after she was taken there by emergency medical technicians.

County Sheriff Wayne Bennett has said he believes the detention center staff did not neglect Thompson's medical condition.

The inquest will take place on Nov. 12.
