The trial of a Floyd County man and woman accused of murdering an infant has been pushed back to February 2010.

Shamekia Shantell Byars, the infant’s mother, and Mike Reggie Haynes, her live-in boyfriend, both of 803 Darlington Way, were arrested and indicted in March 2009 on charges of murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and cruelty to children.

They are accused of causing the death of an infant, Sha’niya L. Moses, on Nov. 5, 2005, after the child died from severe head and brain injuries allegedly caused by physical abuse.

The indictment also alleges the couple intentionally delayed necessary medical treatment after the child received the injuries that led to her death.

Motions were scheduled to be heard this week, with a trial set for Nov. 30. Both of those dates were canceled and motions are scheduled to be heard on Jan. 25, 2010.

The trial is scheduled to begin on Feb. 15, 2010.

people dont need to believe everything they hear but the facts. they need to look at the mothers background as far as child abuse and neglect to her 2 other daughters and another child in 2008 that was severely hurt while in mothers custody. 9 children and dont have custody of not one of them. father was helping mother with classes to get children back. extremely wonderful father especially when he finds out that only three is his own. why is it taking so long for the father to get his justice? especially, so he can get back to his real kids and job and life and the life and growth of his children. we need a mayor around here. what happened to Innocent until proven guilty? its an automatic GUILTY until u prove the state/court that u r innocent! people that dont have their kids need to be put a stop to having anymore. that should be a law!! -daddy's lil girl always.

Well lets hope that they finally do go to trial.. This poor baby never should have been given to this mother to have visits. Why is she still out here having kids anyway. i hope the DA's office can let the public know exactly why this case is being taken to court? These two people should be spending their HOLIDAYS in JAIL.. Monsters are what they are.. The Harper/Reynolds case should have got out on bail. What is a childs life worth when we dont give justice. This child died a HORRIBLE DEATH and these two are FREE seriously... Where is the justice?
