DUNWOODY, Ga. (AP) — Police in Dunwoody are investigating the death of a man they say was grabbed and pinned to the ground by security officers who suspected him of shoplifting.

Dunwoody Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Carlson says 38-year-old Marty Bridges was attempting to flee a Walmart when store security officers grabbed him, and an altercation ensued.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Carlson says police arrived and found bystanders trying to resuscitate Bridges, who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Carlson says the value of the items Bridges was accused of stealing was less than $300, and would have amounted to a misdemeanor.

He says it doesn't appear as if undue force was used to subdue Bridges.
