ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia bill that would allow licensed gun owners to carry concealed weapons in most places is headed to a House subcommittee.

Rep. Rich Golick (R-Smyrna), said a subcommittee will be able to "hash out" some of the concerns about the bill.

Most of the discussion centers on an expansion of the rights of licensed gun owners to carry their weapons to churches, bars and college campuses.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Tim Bearden (R-Villa Rica), told committee members Thursday the existing law is "extremely confusing" to gun owners and law enforcement.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports an overflow crowd appeared at the hearing, including gun rights supporters wearing orange badges that read: "Guns Save Lives."

tedb3rd: I don't think I'm superior to anybody, except maybe in theory. All men are created equal. And I wouldn't run for elected office in Floiyd County because I'm just too darned honest.

Just FYI to everybody: Realestatemystic is the smartest person in the universe. He has all the answers and could solve ANY of the problems in the universe--instantly. He is far more educated than you, for sure. He has traveled to other countries. He watches the news. ...and, most importantly, he reads articles on RNT. And thank our Lord, he posts comments to enlighten our Neanderthal (at best) brains. For some strange reason, however, he chooses not to run for office or something like that. Perhaps his (or her) reason is so far beyond our puny human branes to understand. If Einstein were still around, he would have learned TONS of valuable information from this MYSTIC icon of our time and generation. Maybe mystic should get a Nobel Prize too for what he has done... AND FOR HIS POTENTIAL!! Mystic, you are our hero. Where would society be if it weren't for you... Certainly, we would be in the dark ages. Thanks for your comments and insights into such complicated matters as legislative priorities. I am drunk with envy.

IMHO, the more rights people have with guns, the better. But don't take MHO by itself. Australia recently passed laws that took guns away from its citizens. Crime has sky-rocketed in that country because criminals know that law-abiding citizens have virtually nothing to defend themselves.

Below my comment screen is a captcha to mess up bots that sums it up.... FXXBS. I especially agree with latter two letters. BS. Who gives a crap about right and left wing rhetoric. People will bend they way the are taught. And those people think they know everything. Lawmakers are no different. They are there to appease their contituants. Short of that, if I owned a bar and some ding bat redneck from the corner of BFE and "Yougottapurdymouth" walked in with a gun, I would have him thrown out on his duff regardless of his carrying a permit. Guns and drunk rednecks do not mix. That is common sense, why has there gotta be a law about it?

Transportation dead locked by the feds unemployment trampled by the feds healthcare... give me a break. We'll see about that one when the cowards emerge from their caves again. The EPA controls almost all asspects of states environmental policies. Barney and company broke the banks. Consumer protection and education. We only get to try to muddle through the expansive federal laws to comply with those. Lets see... all we have left are laws to protect us from the boogie man.

gahalls: Apparently you missed my exchange with CapitolG on this a few days ago, when I commented on the first of these stories on what the legislature was up to during the new session. There, I listed the list of issues that should take priority over the usual redneck-pandering bills that pass for legislation at the dome. Among these priorities (as I recall) are: transportation, unemployment, water, reforming the Georgia Public Service Commission (currently a lapdog for Georgia Power, et al), healthcare, environmental regulation enforcement, banking regulations, consumer protection, and education.

You ask me what "laws" I want to see passed, but I'm not a lawyer and think we have enough laws already. I just think that since new laws are inevitable, they should focus more on the list above and less on sex, guns, and Christian heritage.

What new laws would you like them to pass?

What did I tell you? Georgia Assembly wastes another year on useless bills; departs for the holidays. Georgia Assembly opens new session, addresses the burning issues of sex and guns.

What a laugh!
