A Cedartown man was jailed late Friday on felony weapon and misdemeanor drug charges after a traffic stop, reports stated.

According to Rome police reports:

Jeremy Lee Harmon, 30, of 105 Lumpkin Road in Cedartown, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of firearm or knife while trying to commit crimes and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Rome police were sitting in an unmarked patrol car when a vehicle without its headlights pulled up behind it on Walnut Avenue on Friday around 9:50 p.m.

Behind the car was a Floyd County Sheriff’s Office patrol car, which proceeded with a traffic stop. Harmon was a passenger in the vehicle, and police reported finding a loaded .22-caliber Winchester rifle inside the car next to Harmon, who told police it was loaded.

After police asked him to step out of the car, a bag containing suspected marijuana was alleged to have fallen out of Harmon’s lap.

Police took the drugs and the rifle into their possession for evidence. The driver was released on a warning for not having her headlights on in the rain.

Harmon was released from the Floyd County Jail on $3,750 bail.
