Sleet and snow possible tonight, Tuesday; National Weather Service issues winter weather advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 10 p.m. tonight until noon Tuesday for Floyd County and most of North Georgia.
While little or no snow or sleet accumulation is expected in Floyd County, extreme north Georgia could see some accumulation, according to the weather service.
Some area schools let students out early Monday because of the threat of bad weather.
They include
Fort Payne, Ala., along with
Catoosa, Walker and Chickamauga schools.
Rome and Floyd County schools have no plans to cancel classes Tuesday, but said they would contact the Rome News-Tribune if the weather worsens.
In Rome, rain with possible snow and sleet is expected after about 1 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent. The low will be around 38, and little or no accumulation is expected. There is a 90 percent chance the wet, wintry weather will extend into Tuesday.
A flood warning continues for area rivers including the Coosa River near Plant Hammond, and the Oostanaula near Calhoun.
