Little River Canyon National Preserve has a fire management team performing a prescribed burn in several locations this week. The following areas will be closed:

Wednesday, March 31 - Canyon Mouth Picnic Area

Thursday, April 1 – Wildlife Management Area between road 06 and Hurricane Creek (east of DeKalb County Road 474)

Friday, April 2 – From the Alabama Highway 35 Bridge to Cherokee County Road 103

The park’s fire management program reduces buildup of burnable material in a forest. This prevents wildfires that may occur when conditions are worse and materials are heavy. Prescribed fires such as these require certain conditions, wind, fuel moisture, fire lines in place and fire team on site.
