ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Tech is starting construction on a building to be named after former President G. Wayne Clough. He is now the head of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the $85 million Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons will be held Monday on the Atlanta campus. Clough left Georgia Tech in 2008 to become secretary of the Smithsonian after 14 years as head of the university.

He was recently named president emeritus of Georgia Tech by the state Board of Regents.

The new 230,000-square-foot building will have classrooms, science labs and center for undergraduate advising and tutoring.
