ATLANTA (AP) — The Senate has unanimously approved a law that would tighten Georgia's open records law and ban the release of crime scene photos showing dismembered body parts or exposed genitalia or 911 calls containing personal suffering.

The bill was prompted by a Hustler Magazine inquiry for graphic crime scene photos of Meredith Emerson, the hiker whose naked, dismembered body was found in January 2008 in the north Georgia woods. A judge barred authorities from releasing those photos.

House Speaker David Ralston called the porn magazine's request vile. That chamber passed the bill during Sunshine Week, when news organizations promote open government. The Senate approved the bill on Tuesday in a 50-0 vote.
